Food trucks have been all of the rage for meetings and events the last several years, but it seems that food bikes may be budging their way in as the hot new trend.
There are many reasons why food bikes may be a better option for your event including:
- Increased mobility
- Eco-friendly
- Cheaper
- Can go to more difficult to reach and crowded places
One drawback for the food bike when compared to its cousin the food truck is that there is a limited range in the food it can serve, cooking options, and the amount that can be held.
We still think these are a fun alternative that would surprise attendees and with RAGBRAI being in Iowa, we think it would be well received. Check out some of the successful food bikes in various places around the U.S. and world:
Trailhead Coffee Roasters in Portland, Oregon has probably got to be the most creative food bike setup we’ve seen so far. This company uses two custom crafted cargo bikes to deliver freshly brewed coffee.

But the creativity doesn’t stop there. While searching, we found an even more elaborate solar-powered, WIFI ready café on wheels, Wheelys Café. With this bike they have the capability to serve coffee, sandwiches, and refrigerated drinks. These would be perfect for small events that can’t accommodate a large food truck or even having them drop in during long meetings and conferences.

The combination of technology and green alternatives is ever expanding in this tech-driven era. You can see this with the creation of Hot Bike in San Francisco, which even includes a working stove.

One company, Alternative Bikes, has even taken it a step further by manufacturing a bike called the Shakesta. This bike creates pedal-powered smoothies and shakes and can be used for events and festivals.

If you could create a mobile food bike, what would you choose to serve? On the flip side, what food bikes would you like to see at events?
